C. D. HENRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Dr. Charles D. (C.D.) Henry II – Trailblazer, Educator, Philanthropist, Author, Coach, and Omega Man.

Born and raised in Conway, Arkansas, Brother C.D. Henry joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. by way of Pi Sigma Chapter at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AR in 1942. Bro. Henry received his bachelor’s degree in 1946, master’s degree in 1948, and Doctorate in 1954 from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) in Physical Education.

In 1955 he started working at Grambling State University in Louisiana as a Professor of Physical Education. C.D. later became head of the Department of Health & Physical Education. He proudly served in this position for nearly 30 years, growing their educational department by developing the 1st Master of Science in Sports Administration program while turning the football team into a powerhouse.

Over the years C.D. served as a statistician for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Assistant Commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, member of the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics, member of the USA Olympic Basketball Committee and Grand Keeper of Records, and Seal for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. In 1992 C.D. was inducted into the Grambling State University Hall of Fame!

C.D. was lovingly known to many of his friends and colleagues as a “Walking Encyclopedia”! C.D.’s favorite quote was “To achieve all that is possible, we must attempt the impossible; be as much as we can be, we must dream of being more than we are.”

So, to honor such a great man, friend, father, son, member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., charter member, and chapter officer, Mu Xi Chapter established the Charles D. Henry Scholarship Fund.
